Every second Saturday in August, downtown Rockford is filled with the sound of bagpipes, fiddles and bodhran drums and the sights, sounds and smells of the faire country as Rockford celebrates Celtic Fest.
Vendors along Squires Street offer a wide array of merchandise, including Celtic foods, jewelry, clothing, souvenirs of Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and much, much more. The traditional beer tent appears beside the pavilion, with both domestic and special brews (Guinness and Harp from Ireland).
Entertainment includes Celtic-flavored bands, the Grand Rapids & District Pipe Band, step dancers and audience participation “set” dancing from Scotland and Ireland.
In addition, a children’s area in the Garden Club Park beside the river will features storytelling, drama by the Rogue River Community Theatre, historic re-enactments presented by the Society of Creative Anachronism, face-painting and a blacksmith!
Plan to visit this one-day-only FREE festival sponsored by the Rockford Area Arts
Commission, with the financial support of many area businesses.
